The Chiltern Mount Pilot National Park is a national park in the northeast of the Australian state of Victoria , 237 km northeast of Melbourne and 25 km west of Wodonga , near the small town of Chiltern. The Hume Highway divides the park in half.
Flora
The park is characterized by eucalyptus forest , in which ironbark eucalyptus species dominate. This type of vegetation used to be widespread in the state of Victoria and, due to its abundance of food, provides a food basis, especially for a rich bird life.
The hilly northwestern part of the park is characterized by open eucalyptus forest with red stringybark ( Eucalyptus macrorhyncha ), Blakely's red gum ( Eucalyptus blakelyi ) and various gray box and ironbark eucalyptus species. There are also acacia, orchid, bush peas and plants of the genus Cassinia .
The south-eastern part of the national park has a greater variety of trees, e. B. the eucalyptus species White Box ( Eucalyptus albens ).
Wildlife
Over 150 species of birds have been identified in the park so far, including the regent honeyeater ( Anthochaera phrygia ) and the beautiful parakeet . In the case of notable mammal species, it shows the brush-tailed bucket and the mean flying squirrel bucket .
