The Gunbower National Park is a national park in the north of the Australian state of Victoria , about 250 kilometers north of Melbourne and 59 kilometers northwest of Echuca .

It is located on Gunbower Island , an island between two arms of the Murray River , across from the Riverina region on the north bank of the river.

In the park, established in 2010, wetlands that provide habitat for migratory birds are protected according to the Ramsar Convention .

In the park there are mainly moist eucalyptus forests , in the wetter northeast of the Species River Red Gum , in the drier southwest of the Species Box .

fauna

In addition to kangaroos and emus and endangered species, as there are Gleitbeutler ( Squirrel Glider ) or carpet pythons .
