Chokoloskee is a census-designated place (CDP) in Collier County in the US state of Florida with 359 inhabitants (as of 2010).

Chokoloskee is an island that belongs to the Ten Thousand Islands . It is connected to the Tamiami Trail ( US 41 , SR 90 ) via County Road 29 and is approximately 60 km from Naples .

Demographic data

According to the 2010 census, the then 359 inhabitants were distributed over 255 households. The population density was 512.9 inh / km². 96.1% of the population described themselves as white. 3.6% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 0.3% to several ethnic groups. 5.6% of the population was made up of Hispanics or Latinos .

In 2010 children under the age of 18 and 42.3% of all households lived in 22.1% of all households with persons at least 65 years of age. 68.7% of households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 2.20 and the average family size was 2.63.

19.2% of the population were younger than 20 years old, 16.9% were 20 to 39 years old, 26.5% were 40 to 59 years old, and 47.3% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 53 years. 54.3% of the population were male and 45.7% were female.

The median annual income was $ 36,875, with 66.0% of the population living below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 100% of the population.

On July 24, 1974, the Ted Smallwood Store was inscribed on the National Register of Historic Places .
