Pelican Bay is a census-designated place (CDP) in Collier County in the US state of Florida with 6346 inhabitants (as of 2010).

Pelican Bay borders Naples directly to the north and lies on the Gulf of Mexico . The CDP is affected by the Tamiami Trail ( US 41 ).

Demographic data

According to the 2010 census, the then 6,346 inhabitants were divided into 6,483 households, most of which are holiday homes used as second homes. The population density was 755.5 inh / km². 98.8% of the population identified themselves as white, 0.1% as African American and 0.8% as Asian Americans . 0.1% said they belonged to another ethnic group and 0.2% to several ethnic groups. 1.0% of the population was Hispanic or Latino .

In 2010 children under the age of 18 lived in 2.4% of all households and persons aged 65 and over lived in 80.7% of all households. 67.3% of the households were family households (consisting of married couples with or without offspring or one parent with offspring). The average household size was 1.76 people and the average family size was 2.09 people.

2.5% of the population were younger than 20 years old, 1.6% were 20 to 39 years old, 10.9% were 40 to 59 years old, and 85.0% were at least 60 years old. The mean age was 71 years. 45.9% of the population were male and 54.1% were female.

The median annual income was $ 97,971, with 3.0% of the population living below the poverty line.

In 2000, English was the mother tongue of 96.74% of the population, 1.03% spoke Spanish and 2.24% spoke German .
