In the 1969/70 season he led the entire league with 64 assists, while he was only surpassed by Reggie Leach and Greg Polis with 95 points , so that he was considered in the WCHL First All-Star Team . The attacker was then selected in the 1970 NHL Amateur Draft in tenth position by the California Golden Seals . As a result, he spent his first professional year with the Providence Reds in the American Hockey League (AHL) before the Golden Seals gave him to the Boston Bruins along with Rich LeDuc in November 1971 and Ivan Boldirev received in return . For the time being, however, he ran in the 1971/72 season for the Oklahoma City Blazers in the Central Hockey League (CHL), before he made his debut for the Bruins in the National Hockey League (NHL) at the beginning of the 1972/73 season . After six missions there, however, the center returned to the AHL, to the farm team of the Bruins, the Boston Braves .

At the beginning of the 1973/74 season, Oddleifson earned a regular place in the Bruins' NHL squad, but the competition in the attack center was ultimately too great, so that he transferred to the Vancouver Canucks in February 1974 together with Fred O'Donnell and the rights to Mike Walton has been. In exchange, Bobby Schmautz moved to Boston. In Vancouver, the Canadian managed to significantly increase his personal statistics, so he recorded his career best in the 1975/76 season with 62 points from 80 games. In addition, he developed into the leading player of the Canucks, so that he took over the office of team captain from André Boudrias in the 1976/77 season , but passed it on to Don Lever after only one year . In total, the center forward was active in Vancouver for almost eight years before he played his last NHL game in December 1981 and spent the rest of the season with the Dallas Black Hawks in the CHL. He then let his career end between 1981 and 1983 at SC Langenthal in the Swiss National League B and ended his active career as a result. In total, Oddleifson had played 538 NHL games and recorded 293 points scorer. A little later he settled in the greater Vancouver area and worked there in the real estate industry.
