Baron Christian Heinrich Gayling von Altheim (born October 11, 1743 in Buswiller , † January 13, 1812 in Karlsruhe ) was a Baden Minister and President of the Baden State Ministry.

family

Gayling came from the old Rhineland noble family of the Gayling von Altheim . On July 29, 1773, he married Auguste Wilhemine von Berstett (1750–1831) with whom he had nine children:

Life

As early as 1772 he traveled to St. Petersburg as envoy of Baden to represent the interests of his country to the Russian Empress Catherine the Great . Afterwards he was Vice President of the Court and Church Council and envoy to the Swabian Imperial Circle .

From April 30, 1803 to July 19, 1805 he was Minister of Finance, but was dismissed from service due to difficult financial circumstances due to Napoleonic demands. From July 5, 1808 to December 31, 1809, he was Minister of Justice, then President of the Baden State Ministry until January 13, 1812. At the same time he was again Minister of Finance from December 11, 1810 until his death.

On January 13, 1812, he died in Karlsruhe of a nervous disorder.
