Christian Heldmann

Peter Christian Heldmann (born October 13, 1808 in Frankfurt am Main ; † June 16, 1866 there ) was a German doctor and politician.

Life

Heldmann attended the model school in Frankfurt am Main , from 1817 the pedagogy in Marburg / Lahn and received the relegation in 1826 . From 1826 to 1827 he completed an apprenticeship as a surgeon in Marburg with the town doctor Klingelhöfer and then studied medicine and natural sciences at the university there . In 1831 he worked as an anatomical Prosektor, 1832, he completed his studies with the graduation to the Dr. med. and switched to a Frankfurt reindeer as a private doctor until 1835. During this time he also did botanical studies. In 1836 he became a general practitioner in Selters and took over a farm.

In Selters, Heldmann headed the local council from 1837. In addition to writing political and scientific papers, he took care of the club life in Selters. In 1845 he became director of the agricultural association of the administrative district of Nidda .

In 1847 Heldmann was elected to the second chamber of the state estates of the Grand Duchy of Hesse , where he belonged to the opposition until 1850. In the course of the March Revolution of 1848 he took part in the Heidelberg Assembly on March 5, 1848 , then belonged to the pre-parliament and finally represented the ninth constituency of the Grand Duchy of Hesse as a member of the Frankfurt National Assembly from June 3, 1848 . Although the first election of the electors in Nidda on July 17, 1848 was declared invalid, Heldmann also won the by-election on September 12. In the Paulskirche Heldmann belonged to the left parliamentary group Deutscher Hof and was one of the members of parliament that continued to meet as a rump parliament in Stuttgart until June 18, 1849, even after the failure of the National Assembly . During the imperial constitution campaign in May 1849 he was one of the authors of an appeal calling on the democratic associations of the Vogelsberg to armed resistance. This brought him a case of high treason , which, however, ended in an acquittal in 1850 after eight months of pre- trial detention . From 1851 to 1866, Heldmann was a leading member of the democratic wing of the Progress Party .

In 1856 Heldmann moved to Neu-Isenburg , where he practiced as a doctor until his death, which he suffered from a stroke on a trip.
