Life

Christian Hildebrand was born in Rügenwalde in 1638. His parents were the kitchen and cellar master of Duke Bogislaw XIV of Pomerania , Jakob Hildebrand and his wife Katharina Nisen. After attending school in Rügenwalde, Stolp and at the pedagogy in Stettin , he studied theology at the University of Königsberg from 1661 . From 1662 he acted as court master of the sons of the Polish court hunter von Müllenheim , was secretary to the Swedish ambassador Count Dohna in 1663 and from 1664 in Colberg he was court master of other noble sons.

In 1666 he was to lead the education of the noble sons of Holstein in the house of Professor Caspar March in Kiel . On the way through, however, he stayed in Rostock and took over the education of the sons of Jakob Sebastian Lauremberg , professor at the University of Rostock . In addition, from this year he was enrolled at the Philosophical Faculty of the University of Rostock. In 1667 he accompanied Pastor Dr. who was appointed by the Rostock Marienkirche to the Old Town Church in Königsberg. Georg Damm to represent him there during his illness. On October 13, 1668, he received his master's degree in Rostock and on the same day he married Gertrud Lauremberg (1629–1705), daughter of Professor Peter Lauremberg and his wife Margarethe Carmon (1599–1671) and a sister Jak. Seb. Laurembergs.

The reputation he had acquired through preaching on behalf of him brought him in 1669 the invitation to go to Sweden as court preacher and confessor to Queen Hedwig Eleonore . On April 5, 1677, he was appointed to the Rostock Faculty of Philosophy as a full ducal professor of logic. As the successor to Franz Wolff , he held this professorship until his death. During his tenure he was dean of the philosophical faculty eighteen times and rector of the university in 1686 and 1702 . After the death of Heinrich Dringenberg , he became a senior in the faculty in 1687 and, after the death of Andreas Habichhorst in 1704, a senior in the university.

Seriously suffering from scurvy since 1699 , he died on August 2, 1712 in Rostock. The funeral speech of the university was held by Johannes Fecht , that of the Philosophical Faculty by Karl Arnd .
