Christian Münzner (* 1981 ) is a German guitarist who is best known for his engagement with the death metal bands Obscura and Necrophagist .

biography

Münzner started playing guitar in 1993 after watching bands like Iron Maiden , Metallica and Megadeth on MTV . With the songs of these bands he taught himself the basics of guitar playing and played in various bands at an early age. When he intended to play solos there, he took private guitar lessons. At fourteen, he began to enjoy more extreme guitar playing and discovered Yngwie Malmsteen , Steve Vai , Dream Theater and Paul Gilbert .

In 2002 Münzner graduated from the Munich Guitar Institute. There he got to know music from the fields of jazz and fusion .

Münzner played in the local bands Märchenwald and Hatred , and from 1999 for several years in the death metal band Defeated Sanity . With the band Necrophagist he recorded the album Epitaph in 2004 . He was also a member of the bands Majesty , their successor band MetalForce and Civilization One, the band of Chitral Somapala . He played a guest solo on the 2007 album Stigma Eternal by the death metal band Deadborn . In 2008 Münzner became a member of Obscura, with whom he recorded the albums Cosmogenesis and Omnivium . He is also a member of Spawn of Possession , for which he recorded some solos for a future album. As a live musician, he played concerts with the metal bands Nightrage and Stormwarrior . Münzner is an endorser of guitar amplifiers from Engl and guitar strings from Pyramid and works as a guitar teacher at the ffortissimo music school in Fulda .

style

His influences range from hard rock of the 1970s and 1980s to death metal and black metal , and his favorite artists are Symphony X , former Dream Theater, Emperor , Iron Maiden, later Death , Dissection and guitarists such as Yngwie Malmsteen and Allan Holdsworth . Guitarists who have impressed him over the past few years include Per Nilsson from Scar Symmetry and Ryan Knight from The Black Dahlia Murder .

Michael Rensen described the songs on Münzner's solo album Timewarp in the music magazine Rock Hard as "epic Euro- Speed-Metal numbers with a slight jazz touch and a clear neo-classical touch". He drew comparisons to DragonForce , Yngwie Malmsteen and Steve Morse .
