Christoph Friedrich von Rentzell

Christoph Friedrich von Rentzell (born December 26, 1702 in Rombitten in East Prussia , † June 4, 1778 in Frankenstein in Silesia ) was a Prussian lieutenant general , chief of infantry regiment No. 23 and knight of the Pour le Mérite , governor in Marienwerder and Tapiau . He was also the heir to Rombitten.

Life

In 1717 Rentzell entered Prussian military service . He was initially a non-commissioned officer in the cadet company that King Friedrich Wilhelm I had formed for Crown Prince Friedrich in order to train him as a soldier. He taught the future king to drill in the Prussian style with the weapon. Friedrich later called him his teacher, which also contributed to the fact that Renzell loved music and also played the flute . In 1723 he became a flag junior in Regiment No. 1 .

In 1732 he became second lieutenant and in 1739 prime lieutenant . In 1740 he became a staff captain and on September 26, 1740 he became a real captain . Rentzell wanted to say goodbye because of gout . Frederick II, however, sent him to Aachen for a cure in order to keep him in the Prussian army. In 1742 he was wounded on the way back from Moravia . After the Battle of Hohenfriedberg in September 1745, in which he was wounded again, he received the Pour le Mérite.

In 1752 he became a major , in 1758 a lieutenant colonel and in 1759 a colonel . Before the end of the Seven Years' War he withdrew to his estates in 1762 because of his poor health. The king took him again to the army back, he went to the Amtshauptmannschaft of Kwidzyn and the king appointed him in 1764 to major general , so, first he received the Konigsberg country Regiment no. 2, 1766 and the Garrison Regiment "Itzenplitz" no. 7 and in May 1766 finally the infantry regiment "Lichnowski" No. 23. In 1777 he was appointed lieutenant general. In the following War of the Bavarian Succession he was in the army of the king in Silesia. During the campaign he died on June 4, 1778 in Frankenstein.

Rentzell was unmarried, but had a son who was raised to the nobility by Friedrich II on May 15, 1767 under the name Johann Georg Friedrich Kunath von Rentzell (* 1744) .
