Christoph Leitgeb (born April 14, 1985 in Graz ) is a former Austrian football player on the position of midfielder .
Career
society
Leitgeb began his career in the youth of SK Sturm Graz and worked his way up to the combat team. On April 22, 2006, he scored his first Bundesliga goal against FC Red Bull Salzburg and also drew team boss Josef Hickersberger's attention with his performance . On June 12, 2007, he moved to FC Red Bull Salzburg for a fee of 1.7 million euros, with Leitgeb also having offers from Germany . In Mozart's city he was able to assert himself straight away, but was then repeatedly thrown back due to injuries. In 2009 and 2010 he won the championship with the bulls . In the group stage of the Europa League 2009/10 he was able to win all six group games with the Salzburg team against Lazio Rome , Villarreal and Levski Sofia , but the team was eliminated in the round of 32 against Standard Liège . Over the years Leitgeb developed into a leading player and was rewarded with the captain's ribbon in the 2011/12 season . In August 2015 he underwent meniscus surgery and had to take a break for almost a year after further knee problems.
After the 2018/19 season, he left Salzburg and returned to league rivals SK Sturm Graz, with whom he received a contract that ran until June 2020. In the 2019/20 season he made 22 Bundesliga appearances for Styria. He ended his career after the 2019/20 season.
National team
On May 23, 2006 Leitgeb celebrated his debut for the Austrian national team under team manager Josef Hickersberger . In the friendly against Croatia he was in the starting line-up and was replaced by Michael Mörz in the 72nd minute .
In June 2008 Leitgeb took part in the home European championships with the ÖFB team ; he was used in the second encounter between Austria and Poland . Leitgeb played through and had a big chance that he didn't take. In the third and decisive group match against Germany , Leitgeb came on for Martin Hiden in the 55th minute, but could not prevent the 0-1 defeat and the associated elimination. He played his last international match in November 2014.

Private
Leitgeb's father was born in Croatia , his mother from Austria. Leitgeb lives with his wife Romy and their daughter, who was born in January 2011, in a house in Salzburg .
