Christoph "Chris" Watrin (born August 7, 1988 in Cologne ) is a German singer , musician and choir director .

Childhood and youth

Christoph Watrin received professional piano lessons from the age of 5. At the age of eleven he was already on stage as a soloist in the Cologne children's choir Lucky Kids for a singing competition on WDR television and took first place. A year later he stood at the side of Anke Engelke in front of 2,000 listeners in the Cologne Philharmonic and sang the Jackson Five song Blame It on the Boogie . As a soloist and member of the Cologne youth choir St. Stephan (under the direction of Michael Kokott ) TV appearances on WDR and ARD followed , among others in cooperation with the Bläck Fööss and the Höhnern . Christoph spent most of his youth working on his musical and artistic development.

US5

At the age of 16, Christoph Watrin prevailed against 5000 male applicants for the place in the international boy band US5 and convinced Lou Pearlman , the founder of the Backstreet Boys and * NSync , of his talent. He took part in the program " Big in America ", which was broadcast on RTL II and VIVA as well as on English television. With the US5 group, Christoph Watrin sold more than two million records worldwide within three years and achieved gold status in Germany, Austria and Poland as well as platinum status in Germany. With television appearances in the most famous television shows in Germany ( Goldene Kamera , TV Total , Ein Herz für Kinder , Chartshow etc.) as well as concerts all over the world, US5 reached an audience of millions. With nine singles and two albums, US5 reached the top 10 positions in the German album and single charts . With their debut hit Maria , they topped the German charts for five weeks in a row. Another career highlight is the cooperation with Bee Gees member Robin Gibb for a new recording of the track Too Much Heaven . Watrin has worked on two tracks as a composer and author for US5.

According to US5

Christoph Watrin left US5 in 2008 and started making street music under the name "StadtkinT". He made up his Abitur on the second educational path in Berlin . He processed the experiences of the years at US5 and his then present phase of life in German-language songs with autobiographical texts. The manager of the German duo Rosenstolz became aware of Christoph Watrin and promoted his development as a solo artist and musician. He was also supported and inspired by the music producer Ron Dohanetz .

After completing his A-levels, Watrin studied social and business communication at the Berlin University of the Arts and also continued his education in photography, camera work and film editing .

In 2014 he appeared as a member of the “New Life Gospel Choir” together with Pharrell Williams on “ Wetten, dass ..? “With the world hit Happy . As part of the TV report phenomenon Boybands , he was also seen in the band US5 on VOX in 2014 . Since 2013 Watrin has been leading a choir of people with multiple mental disabilities for Diakonie Michaelshoven in Cologne , with whom he performs at summer and street festivals in Cologne and the surrounding area. In May 2014 he successfully led the Michaelshoven Choir to its first public appearance. He also appears as a singer at church festivals. He met up with former bandmate Jay Khan in 2016 .

Since 2016 he has been studying elementary music education at the Cologne University of Music and Dance .

For 2019 he announced his first studio album The Rise . In addition, the song Goodbye Maria appeared together with his former bandmate Izzy Gallegos as Izzy & Chris .
