The Comunità Montana Alta Valle Scrivia is a Comunità montana in the northern Italian region of Liguria . Politically it belongs to the metropolitan city of Genoa and includes the municipalities of Busalla , Casella , Crocefieschi , Davagna , Isola del Cantone , Montoggio , Ronco Scrivia , Savignone , Valbrevenna and Vobbia .

geography

The administrative community is located in the heart of the Ligurian Apennines , inland between the port city of Genoa and the Po Valley . Its territory includes the area that would be delimited by the imaginary extensions of Val Polcevera and Val Bisagno and is hilly to mountainous in its morphology . The Scrivia , which flows through the valley of the same name (the Valle Scrivia) for about 100 kilometers along a north-south axis, rises on Monte Prelà and receives the inflow of several small streams, which run in the side valleys along an east-west axis. The torrents Pentemina , Brevenna and Vobbia are of great importance .

Because of the existence of numerous meadows and forests, the terrain of the Comunità montana can be described as alpine-like . Valbrevenna has a low population density and shows the character of an ancient, rural town that is populated by holidaymakers in summer. In contrast, there is Montoggio, which is connected to Genoa and the Val Bisagno via the Passo della Scoffèra and the Passo di Creto .

The municipality of Davagna remains isolated from the other municipalities of the Scrivia Valley, although it belongs to the administrative group of these. The middle section of the valley is bounded by Casella and Pietrabissara and communicates with Val Polcevera via the Crocetta d'Orero pass and the Passo dei Giovi . In the same section are the most industrialized municipalities of the Scrivia Valley. These include Casella, Savignone, Busalla, Ronco Scrivia and Isola del Cantone, all of which have seen remarkable economic growth in recent years.

The municipalities of Crocefieschi and Vobbia are outside the inner valley and have no industry worth mentioning. The economy of the two places is mainly based on agriculture .

At 1597 meters, Monte Antola is the highest mountain on the territory of the community. In spring it is a popular destination for the Genoese. In addition to the limestone walls of the Antola, the conglomerates of Savignone are the most striking rock formations in the region.

history

Between the second half of the 19th and the first half of the 20th century, the Scrivia valley was characterized by increasing industrialization . During this period, for example, the Strada Regia connecting road , the rail link and the A7 motorway will be built . The expansion of the infrastructure in the valley allowed the local population to develop more rapidly than the mountain population. During the Second World War , these mountain regions began to become increasingly depopulated. Ronco Scrivia, Busalla and Isorelle arisen factories , tanneries and cotton mills , which led to a brain drain in the valleys.

Today around 23,000 people live in the Scrivia Valley, of which around 8,000 live in the five municipalities of Vobbia, Valbrevenna, Montoggio, Savignone and Crocefieschi and 15,000 in the valley section between Casella, Busalla, Ronco Scrivia and Isola del Cantone.

vegetation

From a height of 700 meters, chestnut trees dominate , which were planted by the population for chestnut production. These served the rural population as staple food. Over 800 meters, however, there are mainly beeches , the wood of which was used to construct the work equipment and especially as the hub of the mill wheels until a few hundred years ago .
