The village is located on a plain of the Scrivia River in the Ligurian Apennines . Casella is about 30 kilometers away from the Ligurian capital Genoa and is connected to it by a narrow-gauge railway. This Trenino di Casella meanders along the slopes of the Valbisagno , Valpolcevera and Valle Scrivia valleys and offers the passenger a unique panorama over the city of Genoa and the Apennines.

Casella belongs to the Comunità Montana Alta Valle Scrivia .
