The community is located on the Sturla stream in the valley of the same name. The distance to the Ligurian capital Genoa is about 57 kilometers.

Together with four other municipalities, Mezzanego forms the Comunità Montana Valli Aveto, Graveglia e Sturla and is located with its common land in the Aveto Nature Park .
