The municipality is located in the Petronio valley near the stream of the same name. The distance to the Ligurian capital Genoa is around 65 kilometers.

Together with three other municipalities, Castiglione Chiavarese forms the mountain municipality of Val Petronio . The municipality is located near the source of the Petronio stream on Monte San Nicolao . The stream that breaks through the rock offers particularly interesting landscapes.
