Cornelius Claudio Kreusch (born September 6, 1968 in Munich ) is a German jazz pianist .

Live and act

Cornelius Claudio Kreusch grew up in Munich and Ottobrunn . His mother is the concert pianist and music teacher Dorothée Kreusch-Jacob . During and after his training as a pianist at Berklee College of Music , he also took lessons from Mal Waldron and Jaki Byard . He has lived in New York since 1993 , where he also did his Masters in Music ( Manhattan School of Music ).

In the jazz piano gala, which was broadcast on television from Gasteig in Munich in 1991 , he performed with Dick Hyman , Martial Solal , Walter Norris and Ray Bryant . With Herbie Hancock , he played the world's first internet concert in 1997 (over 7,000 km away).

On his records he works with musicians such as Greg Osby , Bobby Watson , Kenny Garrett , Anthony Cox , Marvin Smitty Smith , Terri Lyne Carrington , Ron Blake , Elisabeth Kontomanou , Lukas Ligeti , Simon Stockhausen , Biboul Darouiche and Salif Keïta . His most commercially successful records in Germany so far were Scoop and Live! At Steinway Hall / New York . His CD Black Mud Sound was nominated for a Grammy (longlist).

He also played with Markus Stockhausen , Bobby McFerrin , Will Calhoun , Klaus Doldinger and Joachim Kühn, among others . He is known for the very independent sound of his music and combines influences from Herbie Hancock, Ahmad Jamal and Martial Solal . Stylistically, he moves between jazz , world music and classical music .

His current live performances are solo concerts, in a trio with Zaf Zapha and Maxime Zampieri, but also with Jens Loh and Patrick Manzecchi , or together with Klaus Doldinger or Bobby Watson .

Kreusch is also active as a producer (pop, electro, jazz, kids, world). Together with his brother, the classical guitarist Johannes Tonio Kreusch , he is the initiator and artistic director of the Ottobrunn concerts. He also works as KreuschBros with his brother . together, for example in the Two Worlds One project .

Prizes and awards

In 1990 Kreusch received the Biberach Jazz Prize . In 1992, Kreusch received the City of Munich's Culture Promotion Prize. In 1992 Kreusch received the Burghausen Jazz Prize . In 1993 Kreusch received the Berklee Performance Award from the Berklee College of Music. In 1994 Kreusch received the Berklee Performance Award from the Berklee College of Music. In 1994 Kreusch was a finalist at the Great American Jazz Piano Competition. In 1995 Kreusch received the President's Award from the Manhattan School of Music. In 1996 Kreusch received the President's Award from the Manhattan School of Music. In 1999 Kreusch received the Scala Award for Artist of the Year. In 2005 Kreusch received the 1st prize of the International Songwriting Competitions in the jazz category. In 2005 Kreusch received an Honorable Mention of the International Songwriting Competitions in the HipHop category. In 2009 his company MUSICJUSTMUSIC® received the RedHerring100 for "Best Private Tech Companies" in Europe.
