When Wayne County was to be administered in 1851, the decision was made to locate the administrative center near the geographic center. The settlement was laid out according to plan in the same year and named after Corydon in Indiana , the place of origin of a local judge. Corydon was incorporated as an independent municipality in 1857.

In 1879 the city was connected to the railway network for the first time. Several lines of different railway companies ran through Corydon.
