Czarnowo (after 1945 short: Żarnow , German Groß Zarnow ) is a village in the Gmina Kozielice ( Köselitz ) in the Powiat Pyrzycki in the West Pomeranian Voivodeship in Poland .

geography

The place is located in the historical area of Pomerania , about 10 km west of Pyrzyce ( Pyritz ), 35 km south of Stettin ( Polish Sczeczin ) and 20 km east of the German-Polish border . It consists of a small town center with a medieval metric and extends mainly in an east-west direction along the Great Zarnowsee ( Jezioro Czarne ).

history

Already in 10./11. In the 18th century there was a Slavic settlement at this point . According to legend, the knight Blankenburg built a castle here from which he attacked merchants who moved to Pyritz. Eventually it was set by the citizens of Pyritz and Bahn ( Banie ) and the castle was demolished.

In 1322 Barnim III bequeathed the place Cernow the nearby Pyritz, in whose possession it remained until the 20th century. During the Thirty Years War the village was completely burned down. Reconstruction began in 1647.

The area was in a particularly fertile region, which later bore the name Weizackerkreis . In the middle of the 19th century there were 21 farms in Groß Zarnow , 6 Büdnerstellen , a parish church, a widow's house, a school, a forge, a windmill on the southwestern edge of the village and a tavern. 335 residents lived in the 43 residential buildings. The used area of the village was 3,973 acre , of which about 55% of arable land and 27% on rough pastures and forest accounted for.

The place was captured by the Red Army in the spring of 1945 . The German population was expelled in the summer of 1945 after the territory was granted to Poland.

Attractions

The Holy Spirit Church was built in 1601 on an elongated, rectangular floor plan in the center of the village. In 1696 a tower was added and in 1750 the church was renovated and plastered. The dates 1601 and 1750 on the south facade refer to this. In 1795 she received a lamp crowned with a baroque dome. The church has a wooden ceiling and an 18th century pulpit. In 1946 the church was dedicated to the Holy Spirit.
