At the beginning of the stage, six drivers were able to break away. Mathias Krigbaum (Denmark / ColoQuick) was among them . The group had a maximum of five minutes ahead. 90 kilometers from the finish, the outliers were still four minutes ahead, the outliers were misdirected and the race was neutralized at short notice. The race was restarted with the intervals before the misdirection of the escape group. The outliers were caught up with a good 30 kilometers to go. Ramon Sinkeldam (Netherlands / Sunweb), Mads Pedersen (Denmark / Trek), Fabien Grellier (France / Direct Energie) and Jasper Stuyven (Belgium / Trek) attacked 25 kilometers from the finish . They were able to gain a lead of a maximum of 20 seconds and were back in a mountain classification a good 20 kilometers from the finish. Casper Pedersen (Denmark / Giant-Catelli) attacked five kilometers from the finish, on the last lap , after all attacks failed. Pedersen was no longer overtaken and he won the stage as a soloist. The defeated field followed behind him. Second place went to Nacer Bouhanni (France / Cofidis) ahead of Phil Bauhaus (Germany / Sunweb). Pedersen was the first overall leader.
The second stage was neutralized after 90 kilometers driven due to strong wind and rain. When the stage was about to start again, the drivers refused to start again. The stage was then canceled after this protest. Casper Pedersen thus retained the overall lead.
3rd stage
Six drivers led by the Italian Danilo Napolitano (Wanty-Groupe Gobert) cleared the field. The group had a maximum of five minutes and was caught every 45 kilometers from the finish. After all other attacks by Pieter Weening (Netherlands / Rompoot), Jasper Stuyven (Belgium / Trek) or Alexander Kamp (Denmark / Virtu) failed, a small group sprinted on the up to 18 percent steep Kiddesvej / Vejle . Mads Pedersen (Denmark / Trek) drove away from the group 700 meters from the finish and won the stage and took over the overall standings. Lennard Hofstede (Netherlands / Sunweb) came in second, three seconds behind him .
The night before the time trial, the Giant-Castelli team's time trial bikes were stolen. The riders of the team received the time trial bikes from other teams. Of this team, Casper Pedersen achieved a remarkable eighth place, 58 seconds behind Brändle.
Paul Ourselin (France / Direct Energie) and five other drivers pulled away from the field immediately after the start of the stage. Their maximum lead was 5:30 minutes. After three other drivers, including Kévin Van Melsen (Belgium / Wanty), joined the top group ten kilometers from the finish line , all the outliers were set three kilometers from the finish line. It came to a mass sprint. Max Walscheid (Germany / Sunweb) won the sprint ahead of the overall leader Mads Pedersen . Pedersen won the Tour of Denmark with it.
