Dagmar Schellenberger

Dagmar Schellenberger (born June 8, 1958 in Oschatz ) is a German opera , operetta , musical , lied and concert singer ( soprano ). From 2013 to 2017 she was the artistic director and artistic director of the Mörbisch Seefestspiele .

Life

Schellenberger studied singing at the Dresden University of Music with Ilse Hahn . While still a student, she won the International Antonín Dvořák Competition in Karlovy Vary . This was the beginning of her career. In 1983 she began her theater career at the Altenburg State Theater in Thuringia as Ännchen im Freischütz , directed by Peter Konwitschny . While still a student, she made her debut as Xenia in Boris Godunow at the Komische Oper Berlin , of which she was a member of the ensemble until 1997. At the beginning of her career there she sang in a series of productions by Harry Kupfer, mainly roles by Mozart and Georg Friedrich Handel , later her repertoire included works by Richard Wagner and Richard Strauss . From 2006 to 2009 she was a member of the ensemble at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein .

The artist sang at many major national and international music stages, for example in Dresden , Munich , Frankfurt , Hamburg , Zurich , New York , Milan , Brussels , Rome , Jerusalem and Tokyo . She worked with conductors such as Pierre Boulez , Yakov Kreizberg , Kurt Masur , Riccardo Muti , Rolf Reuter , Christian Thielemann and Franz Welser-Möst .

Schellenberger also appeared in many operettas. In 2004 she sang Countess Mariza at the Mörbisch Sea Festival ; a year later she made her debut as Hanna Glawari in The Merry Widow .

The Kammersängerin was director of the Mörbisch Seefestspiele from 2013 to 2017. She was followed by Peter Edelmann in the 2018 season .

Schellenberger is a member of the jury in various national and international singing competitions. From 2006 to 2012 she was visiting professor for singing at the Berlin University of the Arts .
