Daniel Dettwiler

Daniel Dettwiler (* 1974 in Zurich ) is a Swiss musician , composer and sound engineer . He lives with his family in Baselland , has been running the Idea and Sound Studio in Basel since 2005 and lectures at the Basel University of Music and the Zurich University of the Arts .

Live and act

Early years

Daniel Dettwiler founded HD Musicproduction with Willy Honegger in 1992 . He mixed the 1993 album Human Bomb by Neil Filby for the Jecklin label. In 1995 he composed the music for the SRF documentary by Fritz Muri about K1 world champion Andy Hug , Vom Rocky zum Samurai . Together with oboist and conductor Burkhard Glaetzner , he performed the piece Action-Reaction (for oboe, tape and synthesizer) at the Berlin Biennale in 1997 . From 1996 to 2001 he studied audio design at the Basel University of Music . Towards the end of 2005 he worked for ten months at Fabrica , the Benetton Communication & Research Center. There he composed and realized the sound installation Crickets On My Back in 2001 for the inauguration of the new Fabrica building .

Studio

After completing his studies in 2002, Daniel Dettwiler founded the sole proprietorship “Idea & Klang Dettwiler”, and a little later he opened the “Idea and Sound Studio”. Acoustic music

Composer and audio designer

From 2005 Daniel Dettwiler was involved in various audio design projects together with Ramon De Marco. In 2009 they composed a sound design for VW Autostadt with touchscreens several meters high and structure-borne sound transducers that generate haptic feedback . Teaching and Research

Dettwiler has been teaching sound engineering at the Basel University of Music since 2003, and at the Zurich University of the Arts since 2015 , in the sound engineering and FTM faculties (film, theater and media music). Dettwiler has been involved in the FHNW's “Swiss Cultural Challenge” since 2016, either as a mentor or as a jury member. Since 2016 he has been involved in EMPA's Micro Wood violin project , where he is responsible, among other things, for planning and performing hearing tests.
