Daniela Keizer

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Daniela Keizer (born August 28, 1963 in Neuhausen SH ) is a Swiss concept and installation artist . In her work, she deals with visual studies , photography , collage and language , with the spatial and social environment and urban space playing an important role ( environment ).

Life

Daniela Keizer lives and works in Zurich and Crémines . From 1988 to 1989 she attended the preliminary course at the Zurich University of the Arts and from 1988 to 1991 studied free spatial design and sculpture at the University of Art and Design in Basel . Since 2008 she has been teaching at the Bern University of the Arts . Some of her works were created as part of various studio grants and longer stays abroad in Istanbul, Cairo and London, Berlin, Paris and New York. The interdisciplinary exchange across cultural boundaries is a central part of their work. In 2017 she was awarded the prestigious Prix Meret Oppenheim art prize. In the SIKART Lexicon of Art in Switzerland she is listed as a concept and installation artist with a focus on installation, photography, video, object and multimedia.

Artistic creation

Daniela Keizer has explored the possibilities of different display formats in her work since the beginning of her artistic career. The focus is on the image, which she relates to language and text. In the context of large-scale video and visual installations, her works are expanded by a spatial context. Daniela Keiser's works are often interdisciplinary in exchange and in cooperation with cultural workers from her own and distant cultural areas as well as other disciplines such as music, literature and architecture.

The examination of the architectural and spatial is also evident in her numerous art and construction works . In addition to the three-dimensional space that can be experienced, the examination of social, living and thought spaces is also important in her works.

With the installation In and Out of Translation in 1997, a series of works that is central to her work began, in which the act of translation is at the center. The works open up a dialogue between different language cultures and place them in a spatial and visual relationship. Dealing with different languages and translations is an important part of this process work. The final component of the work is a room installation and an accompanying artist book . Since then, several works have been published under In and Out of Translation in exhibitions and museums in Germany and abroad as well as in art publications.

Interdisciplinary and intercultural meetings with translators, interpreters and editors take place periodically in her studio. Transcriptions of this flow into books and art notebooks.

Her experimental use of photography is also characteristic of her work. The artist works with a variety of photographic paper techniques and wall projections. The mostly serial photographic work groups contain extensive wall and room installations, which she calls «photo architecture», as well as publications in book form. In her work with printmaking, she combines analog and digital processes with artistic and technical expertise. She further developed the cyanotype process and brought it to the 21st century.

Daniela Keiser's works are represented in various public collections, such as the Fotomuseum Winterthur , the Aargauer Kunsthaus , the Museum of Contemporary Art Basel and the Swiss National Library in Bern .
