Danniel Thomas-Dodd gained her first experience in international competitions at the Pan American Junior Championships 2011 in Miramar , where she took sixth place in the discus throw with 48.12 m. In 2014 she took part in the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow for the first time and was eighth there with a width of 55.02 m. The following year she took part in the shot put at the Pan American Games in Toronto , where she was fifth with 17.76 m. She also qualified for the World Championships in Beijing , where she was eliminated with 16.62 m in qualification . In 2016 she took part in the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro and was eliminated there with 16.99 m in qualification . At the 2017 World Athletics Championships in London , she came fourth with 18.91 m in the final . At the World Indoor Championships in Birmingham the following year, she won the silver medal behind Hungarian Anita Márton with an indoor record of 19.22 m . Then she won the Commonwealth Games in the Australian Gold Coast with a new Jamaican outdoor record of 19.36 m . In September she finished sixth at the Continental Cup in Ostrava with 16.96 m. At the Pan American Games in Lima in 2019 , she improved the national record for the second time within this year with a push of 19.55 m and won the gold medal.
From 2014 to 2017 and 2019, Thomas-Dodd was Jamaican champion in the shot put and in 2015 also in the discus throw. She graduated from Kent State University in Ohio .
