action

The Germany is heading for Polynesia . There are many bridal couples on board who want to tie the knot on the South Sea island of Moorea . For this reason, there is also a bridal fashion show. Angelika Unger is also on board and a little sad when she sees all the “brides” in their beautiful clothes. She is in a relationship with Rüdiger Kluge, a married man, and wonders if she will ever wear a wedding dress . When she learns from Rüdiger that he is largely related to Captain Paulsen, she is quite uncomfortable. What will the captain think of the fact that Rüdiger is on board with his lover, it goes through her head. She doesn't know that Rüdiger is just pretending to be married. When Captain Paulsen hears about Rüdiger's story, the situation is uncomfortable for him too and he insists that he should no longer keep the truth from Angelika. Since Angelika had doubts about Rüdiger's evasion as soon as she wanted to address the subject, Paulsen let Paulsen fall into a trap. The captain innocently confirms the information she put in his mouth, which of course does not match what her Rüdiger said about his family. Rüdiger is informed by the captain that Angelika knows. When he later proposes to her, she refuses and lets him fidget at first.

Hermann and Gerda Hofer are also on the ship, they want to seal their marriage alliance on Moorea again for their golden wedding anniversary . It turns out that marriage on a ship fifty years ago is invalid. Since Gerda Hofer is not unhappy in her marriage, but does not want to continue to accept the patronizing and neglecting manner of her husband Hermann, she uses this as an opportunity to inform her husband that she does not yet know whether she will even say yes to him in Moorea want to give. Hermann Hofer, who had absolutely not expected such a reaction from Gerda, is speechless at first, but then tries to change his behavior, even if he keeps falling back into old behavior patterns.

Britta and Philipp as well as Arne and Daniela have also accepted the shipping company's "wedding" offer in order to tie the knot in a particularly romantic area. However, when they discover each other on the ship, they are anything but pleased. Britta and Arne as well as Philipp and Daniela were once a couple and the respective connection broke through infidelity. Since their cabins are directly opposite each other and they are table neighbors even when eating, they decide not to let this ruin their trip and to act as adults and treat each other nicely. More than once in the course of this time, however, it turns out that you have a lot more in common with your previous partner, be it in terms of sporting activities, the sense of order or the taste in music.

The new bartender Jens Friedrich has a completely different problem, he is hearted by the captain because Paulsen saw him kissing Raga, one of the models. Connections between staff and guests on the ship are not permitted. Jens can correct the captain that he and Raga have been a couple for two years and also want to get married on Moorea. Before this can happen, however, a few family issues have to be clarified for the young woman. Raga's family lives on Bora Bora , where the ship is going, and that's where Raga also learns that her father had a serious accident with the boat and is in the hospital. In order to support her family, Raga sells her black pearls on the ship - with the captain's permission - the most precious of which her father kept for her with every catch. With the help of the Polynesian legend that the magic of happiness resides in black pearls and that no one in the South Seas would marry without black pearls, the young couple succeeds in selling the pearls at a profit.

Arriving on Moorea, the on-board photographer Ben wants to get the local musicians to play the introduction " Faithful led " from the bridal chorus from Richard Wagner's wedding march, or at least " All in white ". However, they intone cheerful wise men from their homeland, whereupon he remarked in a funny, desperate way: “Yes, it's beautiful, but nobody in Germany knows anyone.” The newlyweds prepare for their wedding, but neither Arne nor Philipp can find the rings. The sporty couple Arne and Britta run back to the ship to get them, during this time Daniela and Philipp get together again and Arne and Britta also admit that they still love each other. The one with the rings was planned by Britta and Daniela, who had recognized much earlier that they wanted to marry the wrong partner. Hermann Hofer is also happy that his Gerda accepted his proposal and Angelika finally redeemed her Rüdiger and gave him her yes. And Raga and Jens also come in time to be married. The couples in love happily leave the small church of the South Seas paradise after the wedding. Captain Paulsen gives another short speech and then hands Raga a necklace of black pearls. Dr. Schröder remarks that it would not be possible that the person who originally owned all the pearls no longer owns a single one. The day ends with whirling fires held by the locals in honor of the fertility god, who descended to earth over a rainbow, in an almost mythical atmosphere.

background

The term South Seas is a common name for the South Pacific . Central island groups are the Society Islands ( French Polynesia / Tahiti ), the Samoa Archipelago and the Fiji Islands. The term South Seas is often used synonymously with Oceania and in a narrower sense with Polynesia ( Polynesian triangle ). Moorea is an island in the South Pacific that politically belongs to French Polynesia . One of the Leeward Islands, Moorea is Tahiti's smaller sister and is within sight of it. Bora Bora, on the other hand, is an atoll and also belongs to French Polynesia, but to the Leeward Islands . In the film it is portrayed as if Bora Bora and Moorea were right next to each other.

According to a Polynesian legend, the pearl mussel was given to the people of Oro, the god of peace and fertility, who descended to earth over a rainbow. There is also the story that he gave this gift out of love for the beautiful princess of the island of Bora-Bora.

criticism

RTZapper said: »The story we were served at Christmas was a nightmare. A young couple separates because the respective exes (also a couple) are also on board. They find that the ex is way nicer. The ex becomes the ex-ex and everyone is happy. What a fairy tale. "
