Björn Herbert Fritz Roberto Kegel Casapietra (born February 18, 1970 in Genoa , Italy ) is a German opera singer ( tenor ), presenter and actor . He sings classical, especially Italian opera arias, as well as ballads , most of which were composed especially for him, as well as Irish, Spanish and Italian folk music. As a tenor, he became known to a larger audience in 1999 through the role of Raoul in the Hamburg production of the musical Das Phantom der Oper as well as through extensive concert activities at the Philharmonie Berlin , the Frauenkirche in Dresden , the Konzerthaus Berlin and through guest appearances in Milan and Monza . He made his debut as Alfredo in Verdi's opera La traviata .

Life

Björn Casapietra grew up in the Berlin settlement Rauchfangswerder . His parents' house shaped him musically from childhood. His mother is the Italian soprano Kammersängerin Celestina Casapietra and his father is the conductor Herbert Kegel , who died in 1990 and who achieved world fame with the Leipzig Radio Choir and the Dresden Philharmonic . He is the half-brother of Uwe Hassbecker , the guitarist of the band Silly .

After graduating from school in 1986 and trying to learn several professions such as lighting technician or commercial clerk, Björn Casapietra finally decided to pursue an artistic career. He completed his vocal training at the Hanns Eisler Academy of Music in Berlin and at the Ruggiero Orofino in Milan.

Björn Casapietra lives in Berlin.

He gained greater fame as an actor through his role as Armin Franke in the RTL series Unter Uns as well as through the ARD series St. Angela and the title role in the ZDF series Not without my lawyer .

As a tenor, he released his debut album Casapietra in 2000 . Two years later followed the soulful, ballad-like "Silent Passion" and in 2004 the DVD Across Europe . The album My Heart's Truth is emphatically classic, versatile seduction , and in Celtic Prayer Casapietra shows alongside modern world songs, his musical love for the Celtic tradition.

From 2002 to 2004 he moderated the weekly ZDF Sunday concert as well as the festival of the winners for the ARD.

Since 2004, the focus of his artistic work has been, in addition to the recording of further studio albums (see discography), an extensive concert activity as a tenor, starting with the project Passion in Italian , together with his mother, the soprano, chamber singer Celestina Casapietra.

Björn Casapietra live

His artistic work has taken him to major stages internationally and nationally. His stations were Vienna, Innsbruck, Milan, the Berlin and Munich Philharmonic, the Berlin Admiralspalast, the Schauspielhaus Berlin, the Berlin Cathedral, the Alte Oper Frankfurt am Main, the Laeiszhalle Hamburg, the Berlin Friedrichstadt-Palast and the Nikolaisaal Potsdam. Nationally he gives guest performances in hundreds of small and large churches, theaters and cultural institutions.

His current sixth studio album "Un Amore Italiano" was produced by Valicon. Dates for tours are planned for 2020/21.

Filmography (selection)

Björn Casapietra has been actively supporting the “ Bärenherz ” children's hospice since 2002 as part of its concerts . He is committed to non-profit and charitable projects and sang a. a. in the Wiesbaden Kurhaus for the organization of the guide dog and in 2012 for the second time for the HOPE gala in the Dresden theater to fight AIDS.

Casapietra has also been a journalist and author since 2016. His reports mostly deal with the search for traces of Jewish life in Berlin.
