De'Mon Brooks (born May 28, 1992 in Charlotte , North Carolina ) is an American basketball player . After finishing his studies in his home country, Brooks played as a professional for two years in Italy and in the meantime in Israel . Brooks has been playing for the German first division club medi Bayreuth in the basketball Bundesliga since 2016 .

Career

Brooks graduated from Hopewell High School in Huntersville, North Carolina and scored a double-double in points and rebounds per game for the school team . He then received a scholarship from Davidson College in the town of the same name, which is a few kilometers north of Huntersville. From 2010 he was still active within the Southern Conference (SoCon) of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) for the university team Wildcats , for which the well-known later two-time NBA MVP Stephen Curry had played until a year earlier . For the first time since their time with Curry, the Wildcats won the SoCon Conference Tournament in 2012 and 2013 , with Brooks and Curry previously being named Most Outstanding Player of the SoCon tournament twice in a row , and they qualified for the national NCAA finals , in which they, however each lost their opening game. They lost each of the weaker teams in 2012 against the Louisville Cardinals , which were led by the later Berlin Bundesliga player Peyton Siva and only failed in the Final Four at the eventual title winner Kentucky Wildcats , and in 2013 only very slightly with one point difference against the Marquette Golden Eagles , who were able to turn a five-point deficit in the final minute into a victory. In Brooks' senior year, the Wildcats won the regular season of SoCon for the third time in a row, but lost the semifinal game in the Conference Tournament against the Western Carolina Catamounts after extra time and then only played in the National Invitation Tournament , where they also played their opening game against the Missouri Tigers lost.

After completing his studies in 2014, Brooks was not included in the 2014 NBA draft and therefore began a professional career in Europe. Here he got a contract with the Italian second division club Azzurro Givova from Naples in Campania . The league, which was reintroduced in its name as Serie A2 , suffered from the exclusion of two teams and the renewed financial difficulties of a Napolitan basketball team, as had the predecessor clubs of Azzurro. Brooks left the club about halfway through the season and moved to the Israeli Ligat ha'Al to the first division club Hapoel Gilboa Galil from the regional association Gilboa in the northern district . However, the 2010 champions played a particularly bad season and rookie Brooks could no longer prevent the club from ending the season after only nine wins in 33 games and relegated to the bottom of the table. The following season Brooks returned to the A2 series, which was now held in two regional seasons, and played for Orthi Derthona from Tortona in Piedmont . The team had only moved up from the A2 Silver to the newly introduced western season this season and reached the play-offs for promotion to the top division in third place of their season . After the narrow success in the opening series against Trieste 2004 , the team lost in the quarter-finals to the later play-off winner and promoted Brescia Leonessa .

For the 2016/17 basketball Bundesliga , Brooks was signed by the German first division club BBC medi from Bayreuth to succeed Kenneth Horton . Brooks reached fourth place with Upper Franconia after the main round and for the first time in 20 years a Bayreuth team qualified for the play-offs for the German championship. In the first play-off round, however, you could not use the home right in the first game to defeat the eventual runner-up EWE Baskets Oldenburg , and after four games were eliminated from the title award. After another good placement in the first half of the 2017/18 basketball Bundesliga , Bayreuth qualified for the top four tournament in the easycredit BBL Cup 2018 for the first time in a long time , but in which they lost both games and finished fourth. Brooks also played with the team for the first time in an international club competition and only narrowly failed in the quarter-finals of the 2017/18 Basketball Champions League to make it into the final four tournament at national competitor MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg , although they had won the first leg away.
