regulate

After the "Deal or No Deal" candidate has been chosen, he chooses one of 20 (or up to 26) suitcases (in Germany since 2014 boxes), each with an amount of money.

All amounts of money in play are known and are displayed on a display board. However, it is not known which suitcase contains which of the amounts.

To find out which amounts are not in the suitcase that the candidate has chosen, the candidate first has six of the remaining suitcases opened one after the other. The amounts of money that come to the fore are eliminated from the game and are hidden on the scoreboard.

The “bank” then makes the candidate an offer for his selected suitcase. The amount of the offer depends on what amounts are still in play. So the offer will be high if the high amounts are still in play and may be in the selected suitcase.

If the candidate accepts the deal , the game ends and he receives the price offered by the bank. If the candidate refuses, the game continues and more suitcases are opened until the banker makes another offer to be decided. Less and less cases are opened per lap. If the candidate does not sell his suitcase to the bank until the end, he receives the amount in it.

The offer of the bank

The bank's offer after each round does not follow any recognizable formula. In the first few laps, however, it is chosen so that it is well below the average value of the remaining suitcases. The statistically expected profit ( expected value ) in the selected suitcase is thus higher than the safe offer of the bank. For this reason, it is advisable to decline the offer in the first few rounds, which will avoid the show ending too early.

The show in Germany

2004

The broadcast of the show Deal Or No Deal - The Show of the Glücksspirale began on May 1, 2004 under the name Der Millionendeal on the German private broadcaster Sat.1 . (The quiz "The chance of your life", on which the Dutch original was based, ran on Sat1 in 2000) The weekly show, which was strongly based on the Dutch version in question, and therefore the theme music and the jingles of the "Chance" was moderated of your life ", from the Dutch presenter Linda de Mol . There were a total of 500 candidates, from which ten players were selected by a random generator, who in turn fought for a place in the final in two rounds. In the first round the candidates had to compete against each other in arithmetic duels, so only five players got into the second round. Here the candidates each had to choose two of 26 number boxes with hidden numbers between 1 and 26. The player with the highest sum of both numbers in the boxes reached the final. In both preliminary rounds, however, the players could also get out of the game against an offer from the bank. The 500 candidates were divided into 10 stands, each consisting of two blocks of 25 players. After the finalist had selected his suitcase, the 24 players from his block and a randomly selected studio candidate received the other suitcases. These 25 candidates then had to open the suitcases and tap the contents of their suitcases beforehand. If the tip was correct, the candidate received up to € 26,000 (€ 1,000 for each suitcase that was still locked at the time of the tip). The maximum prize that was in one of the 26 suitcases was two million euros. After seven programs, the program was temporarily suspended due to high production costs; the production took place in the Endemol studios in Aalsmeer, the Netherlands.

2005

There should be new episodes of the show during the summer break on Schillerstrasse , this time under the name Deal Or No Deal . In addition to the new name, there were other changes in the concept. The moderation was taken over by Guido Cantz , who now played with the candidates for € 250,000, which were hidden in one of the now 20 suitcases. The show's partner was the Glücksspirale lottery , which was now back on television with a show. The selection round of the candidate was shortened, so that now 20 candidates competed for a place in the final. Due to a shortened preselection, in which an umbrella term had to be guessed with the help of clues, the suitcase game was now played twice in the one-hour show. Another innovation was that the moderator received an offer from the bank over the phone. In addition, the new musical design of the show from the Netherlands, which was composed by Martijn Schimmer, was adopted, which means that the jingles from the million-dollar deal known from "Chance of your Life" were no longer used. A continuation was unlikely due to the again bad audience ratings.

2006 to 2008

In March 2006, Sat.1 announced the return of the show format for the summer of 2006, the third season of which started on June 28, 2006 and which was again subjected to some innovations. In addition to the logo and the studio, the concept was again slightly changed so that it was more based on the American version of the show. There were again 26 suitcases with which the player could earn a maximum of € 250,000. The selection round was played unchanged in the first broadcasts (with now only 10 candidates) and was then completely omitted in later broadcasts, from this point on only one candidate who had previously been determined played the suitcase game. While the season from 2005 was based on the Dutch music concept composed by Martijn Schimmer, the music from the American show was now adopted. In October 2008, Sat.1 announced that the program would be discontinued due to poor ratings. The fifth season only reached two million viewers twice. Eight episodes were shown until December 2008.

2014 to 2015

In April 2014, Sat.1 announced that the program would be re-produced in summer 2014 and broadcast again. This new edition is based on the British version of the show and is moderated by Wayne Carpendale . Instead of 26 models with one suitcase each, there are 20 candidates with one box each. Each of them has a new box in each round, in which amounts of money between one and 250,000 euros are hidden. A random generator selects the respective player. In the process of elimination, he gradually opens the remaining 19 boxes. In between, the "banker" mentions a sum of money to get the candidate to exit.
