economy
Decatur is predominantly industrial. For example, AE Staley and Archer Daniels Midland have large factories for processing corn and soy products. There is also a Caterpillar manufacturing facility here. The tire manufacturer Firestone , which was taken over by Bridgestone in 1988 , had a tire factory in Decatur until 2001.
The city is a rail hub , but only for freight traffic . The marshalling yard despite its size, does not have a hump .
