The Scarlet Musketeer (Original title: Le Chevalier de Pardaillan ) is a French - Italian coat-and-sword film directed by Bernard Borderie from 1962 . The film is based on the book La Fausta in the Les Pardaillan series by Michel Zevaco .

Paris 1588: Pardaillan first saves the gypsy girl Violetta from being kidnapped by the servants of Duke Henri de Guise and falls in love with her. But she is not a gypsy girl, but the heir to the throne of France Isabelle d'Entraigues. Henri de Guise intends to marry her in order to ascend the throne of France. When the kidnapping succeeds, Pardaillan is captured. But he manages to free himself.
