Detlev Arens

Detlev Arens (* 1948 in Siegen ) is a German freelance author and journalist . He has mainly emerged as the author of art travel guides .

Life

Arens studied German , philosophy and theater studies at the University of Cologne . In 1980 he was with the dissertation research on Arthur Schnitzler's novel " The way out " at the Polytechnic Wuppertal to Dr. phil. PhD .

Since 1985 he has made a name for himself as the author of several illustrated books and a number of art travel guides , which are primarily aimed at cultural tourists . In these guides, most of which he published in the DuMont publishing group , he introduced the Ardennes , Flanders and the Rhineland , among others . He wrote several books about the cities of Cologne and Prague . In 2001 he published a biography of Franz Kafka in Deutsches Taschenbuch Verlag (dtv) . He is also the author of numerous radio essays on art historical and philosophical topics. Arens has also authored several nature books, including one on the Wahner Heide (2006). At the end of 2010 - in keeping with the " International Year of Forests 2011 " - he published the book Der deutsche Wald . Arens, who lived in Cologne for a long time, has lived with his family in Bonn-Kessenich since 1999 .
