history

The Deutsche Kreditbank was founded as a stock corporation on March 19, 1990 as the first private bank in the GDR after the political change . Co-founder was Edgar Most , the last Vice President of the State Bank of the GDR .

The share capital was held by the State Bank of the GDR, the Association of German Consumer Cooperatives , the Interhotels , the state-owned department stores Centrum and the VEB Synthesewerk Schwarzheide . On April 1, 1990, the bank commenced operations with an opening balance sheet total of 286.5 billion German marks. The Deutsche Kreditbank covered the broad spectrum from business to private customers right from the start. In the closing balance on June 30, 1990, the bank's own funds amounted to 11 billion marks in the GDR.

On June 21, 1990 the debts of the State Bank of the GDR were transferred to the Deutsche Kreditbank and the shares that the Staatsbank itself had in the Deutsche Kreditbank to the Treuhandanstalt . With around 60 billion marks, the bank was the most important creditor of the trust companies and was commissioned by the trust establishment to process these old loans. In the following years, the Treuhandanstalt gradually acquired the remaining shares of the founding shareholders until it became the sole owner of the Deutsche Kreditbank at the beginning of 1993.

Most of the deposit business (especially corporate and private customer business) as well as numerous branch buildings and locations were taken over proportionally by Dresdner Bank and Deutsche Bank with the monetary union . Until mid-1991, these areas operated under the names of Dresdner Bank Kreditbank AG and Deutsche Bank Kreditbank AG .

According to a report by the Federal Audit Office , buyers were given access to branches, the customer base and the real estate of the GDR banks at preferential prices. For example, For example, Deutsche Bank shares in Deutsche Kreditbank and its 112 branches for 310 million marks. A subsidiary of Dresdner Bank paid DM 87.3 million for 41 pieces of land with buildings previously owned by Deutsche Kreditbank. A subsidiary of Deutsche Bank purchased 74 pieces of land for DM 164.4 million. The auditors of the Federal Audit Office described this as an “unreasonably low purchase price ".

With the dissolution of the Treuhandanstalt at the end of December 31, 1994, the Deutsche Kreditbank was initially for a short time transferred directly to the assets of the Federal Ministry of Finance and was sold shortly afterwards on January 31, 1995 to the Bayerische Landesbank .
