The Apocalypse marks the end of the TV series "The Bible".
action
The action begins on the island of Patmos . The last remaining Apostle John , like other Christians, was interned by Emperor Domitian in a prison camp on this Mediterranean island . But Domitian doesn't know that it is Johannes. He gave himself the pseudonym “Theophilus” and dictated letters to his scribe Demetrius, which were smuggled to Christian communities all over the world.
But the situation comes to a head when Domitian orders that every citizen in the Roman Empire should worship him as a deity within just 30 days.
The Christians are then encouraged by John to continue to believe in Jesus of Nazareth . Because the apostle receives visions of an approaching kingdom of heaven, of the end of the world and of the return of the Messiah .
Parallel to the fate of John, the love affair between the Roman Valerius and the Christian Irene is depicted.
Trivia
In order to be able to represent the last book of the Bible , the “Secret Revelation of John ” in a credible way, special effects were used in this film, in total more than in any film in the series before.
Reviews
“The visions of Johannes are visually impressively staged. Apart from that, the film has no optical highlights - but a Bible film doesn't necessarily have to have either. Unfortunately, the content of the well-known clichés is rarely broken: The Romans are cunning, cruel or crazy, the Christians suffer nobly, the Jews are wise and dignified - and the Christian message falls by the wayside somewhere. What a shame - a little exciting end for a series that set out to introduce a new audience to the topics of the Bible with modern films and in this sense also had some promising contributions (rating: 3 stars out of a possible 5, corresponds to "ok") "
