The district of Anguía is located in the province of Chota in the region of Cajamarca in northwestern Peru . The district was established on October 16, 1933. It has an area of 153 km². The 2017 census counted 3211 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 4428, in 2007 it was 4244. The seat of the district administration is the 2400 m high village of Anguía with 395 inhabitants (as of 2017). Anguía is 25 km north-northeast of the provincial capital Chota .
Geographical location
The Anguía district is located in the Peruvian Western Cordillera in the northeast of the Chota province. The area is drained via the Río Silaco to the Río Marañón . The Río de Huaranga flows along the western district boundary to the north to the Río de Socola, which in turn flows along the northern district boundary to the east. The Río Tacabamba crosses the central part of the district in a northerly direction. The Río Llaucano runs along the eastern district boundary.
The Anguía district borders in the northeast on the Socota district ( Cutervo province ), in the north on the San Luis de Lucma district , in the east on the Chimban district and in the south and southwest on the Tacabamba district .
