The Querocoto district is located in the Chota Province in the Cajamarca region in northwestern Peru . The district was founded on May 14, 1876. It has an area of 494.94 km². The 2017 census counted 8,023 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 10,410, in 2007 9229. The district administration is located in the 2455 m high village of Querocoto with 801 inhabitants (as of 2017). Querocoto is located about 52 km west of the provincial capital Chota . Almost 4 km northeast of Querocoto is the Pacopampa archaeological site. In the south is the Pagaibamba forest reserve .
Geographical location
The Querocoto district is located in the Peruvian Western Cordillera in the northwest of the Chota province. The Río Chotano flows north along the northeastern district boundary .
The district of Querocoto borders in the southwest on the district Llama , in the west on the districts San Juan de Licupis and Miracosta , in the north on the district Querocotillo ( province Cutervo ), in the northeast on the district Cutervo (also in the province Cutervo) and in the southeast to the district of Huambos .
