The Choropampa District is one of 19 districts in the Chota Province in the Cajamarca region in northwestern Peru . The district was established on December 12, 1991. It has an area of 171 km² (according to other sources: 207 km²). The 2017 census counted 2336 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 5291, in 2007 it was 3314. The district administration is located in the 2850 m high village of Choropampa with 315 inhabitants (as of 2017). Choropampa is just under 35 km northeast of the provincial capital Chota .
Geographical location
The district of Choropampa is located in the Peruvian Western Cordillera in the far east of the province of Chota. The Río Marañón River flows north along the eastern district boundary.
The district of Choropampa borders in the southeast with the district Cortegana ( province Celendín ), in the southwest with the district Chadín , in the west with the district Tacabamba , in the north with the district Chimban and in the east, beyond the Río Marañón, with the districts Providencia and Ocumal (both in Luya Province , Amazon region ).
