The district of Chiguirip is located in the province of Chota in the region of Cajamarca in northwestern Peru . The district was established on October 31, 1896. It has an area of ​​51.44 km². The 2017 census counted 3,641 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 5010, in 2007 it was 4678. The district administration is based in the 2650  m high village of Chiguirip with 320 inhabitants (as of 2017). Chiguirip is 16 km north-northwest of the provincial capital Chota .

Geographical location

The district of Chiguirip is located in the Peruvian Western Cordillera in the northwest of the eastern part of the province of Chota. The area is drained by the Río Tuspon, a tributary of the Río Tacabamba, to the east.

The district of Chiguirip borders in the west on the district Cutervo ( province Cutervo ), in the north on the district Tacabamba , in the east on the district Conchán and in the south on the district Chota .
