The district of Cochabamba is located in the province of Chota in the region of Cajamarca in northwestern Peru . The district was founded on January 2, 1857. It has an area of 118 km². The 2017 census counted 5546 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 7603, in 2007 it was 6674. The district administration is located in the small town of Cochabamba at an altitude of 1667 m with 1408 inhabitants (as of 2017). Cochabamba is located 28 km west-northwest of the provincial capital Chota .
Geographical location
The district of Cochabamba is located in the Peruvian Western Cordillera in the far east of the western part of the province of Chota. The district thus forms a link between the western and eastern parts of the province. The Río Chotano flows along the northeastern district border and then crosses the northwest of the district in a predominantly northwestern direction.
The district of Cochabamba borders in the south on the district Chancaybaños ( province Santa Cruz ), in the west on the district Huambos , in the north and northeast on the district Cutervo ( province Cutervo ) and in the extreme southeast on the district Lajas .
