The Paucartambo district is located in the province of Pasco of Pasco region in central Peru . The district was established on December 30, 1918. It has an area of 719 km². The 2017 census counted 11,637 residents. In 1993 the population was 13,939, in 2007 it was 20,993. The district administration is located in the small town of Paucartambo at an altitude of 2950 m with 5320 inhabitants (as of 2017). Paucartambo is located 50 km east-southeast of the provincial and regional capital Cerro de Pasco .
Geographical location
The district of Paucartambo is located in the Peruvian Central Cordillera in the southeast of the province of Pasco. The river Río Paucartambo drains the area to the east. The western and northern district boundaries are formed by the Río Ranyac, Río Huachón and, below the confluence of the Río Huachón, the Río Paucartambo.
The Paucartambo district is bordered to the west by the district Ninacaca , on the north by the district Huachón , in the far northeast of the district Chontabamba ( province Oxapampa ) and on the south by the districts Ulcumayo and Carhuamayo (both in the province of Junín ).
