The district of San Luis is located in the province of Cañete in the Lima region in central western Peru . The district was founded on January 12, 1871. It has an area of 38.53 km². At the 2017 census, there were 13,436 residents in the district. In 1993 the population was 10,159, in 2007 11,940. The administrative center is the 26 m high town of San Luis (also San Luis de Cañete) with 6773 inhabitants (as of 2017).
Geographical location
The district of San Luis is located on the Pacific coast in the southwest of the province of Cañete. It has a 4 km long coastline and stretches almost 7.5 km inland. Irrigated agriculture is practiced in the district. The national road 1S ( Panamericana ) crosses the district.
The district of San Luis borders in the northwest on the district Cerro Azul , in the northeast on the district Imperial and in the southeast on the district San Vicente de Cañete .
