Dmitri Anatolyevich Pantov ; Russian Дмитрий Анатольевич Пантов ; (Born September 12, 1969 in Pavlodar ) is a former Kazakh biathlete who took part in three Winter Olympics.
Dmitri Pantov started biathlon in 1986. The married sports teacher started for Dinamo and lives in his native Pavlodar. He competed in his first race in the Biathlon World Cup in 1993 in Lillehammer and was 74th in an individual. In 1994 , he won World Cup points in Ruhpolding as 15th of an individual for the first time. In the following time Pantow's performances were very fluctuating, ranged from a third place in a single at the beginning of the season 1994/95 in Bad Gastein to results in the range of places 60 to 70. The third place was also the best career result of the Kazakhs in World cup. Even before that, he took part in the Winter Olympics for the first time in Lillehammer and came in 51st in the individual and 48th in the sprint. The next major event was the 1995 Biathlon World Championships in Antholz , where Pantov was 29th of the individual and 27th of the sprint and was 15th in the relay competition with Valeri Ivanov , Alexander Menschtschikow and Dmitri Posdnyakov . It took until 1997 that the Kazakhs again took part in a world championship in Osrblie and was 24th of the individual, finished 33rd in the sprint, came 24th in the pursuit and came with Ivanov, Sergei Abdukarow and Posdnjakow with the Season came in 18th. In the team competition they finished eleventh with the same line-up. In the World Cup between the 1994/95 and 1996/97 seasons he repeatedly achieved good results in the points, after which such successes became a rarity. 1996 Pantow won the Winter Asian Games in Harbin in sprint and relay and was third in the individual, in 1999 he repeated the relay victory and was third in each of the two individual competitions.
In 1998 the second participation in the Olympic Winter Games followed . At the competitions in Nagano Pantow was used three times and finished 49th in the individual, was 54th in the sprint and with Posdnjakow, Menschtschikow and Ivanov 16th in the Kazakh relay. At the World Championships 2000 at Holmenkollen in Oslo , Pantow started for the third time in a world championship and reached place 70 in the individual, 39 in the sprint and 38 in the pursuit. In Khanty-Mansiysk followed the participation in the summer biathlon world championships 2000 , in which the Kazakhs 21st in the sprint and 23rd in the pursuit. In 2001 he took part in a world championship for the last time and achieved no noteworthy results in Pokljuka with rank 45 in the individual and 73 in the sprint. The last highlight at the end of his career was the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City . In the competitions in Soldier Hollow Pantow was 49th in the individual and 79th in the sprint.
Pantow has been coaching the Kazakh national biathlon team since 2003.
