Dominique Taboga (born November 6, 1982 in Vienna ) is a former Austrian football player on the position of a defender .
Career
youth
Taboga began his active career as a football player in 1987 in the youth teams of the ASV Ofenbinder Spratzern . After four years he was awarded the SKN St. Pölten (then VSE St. Pölten ). From January to June 1997 he was a youth player for Vfb Admira Wacker Mödling before moving to SK Rapid Vienna in July of the same year . At Rapid he trained together with Andreas Ivanschitz , but did not make the leap into the fighting team. After three years at Rapid, he returned to SKN St. Pölten in 2000. In 2001 he finally moved to Kremser SC , from whose men's team he moved to Styria in 2002 to his first professional station, the DSV Leoben in the mining town of Leoben .
First stations as a professional
He made his professional debut at DSV Leoben in the second-rate Austrian First League on July 25, 2003 in a 1-0 away win over SC Untersiebenbrunn , when he was on the pitch for the entire duration of the game. His first goal as a professional football player was his third appearance on September 13, 2003, when he scored the 1-0 opening goal in a 4-0 home win over FC Wacker Innsbruck .
After more than four years with the Donawitzers and a record of 61 league appearances and four goals, he moved within Styria to Kapfenberger SV during the 2006/07 season , where he made his club debut just two days after signing his contract. From this game he was a regular in the Kapfenberg defense line and later became the captain of his team. A special feature of Taboga's style of play are his extremely long throw-ins , which, when they go into the opponent's penalty area, are often used as assists. His teammates were able to score several league goals just by throwing in from distance.
At the end of the 2007/08 season Taboga rose with the team in the top division in Austrian football. He made his debut in the Austrian Bundesliga on July 9, 2008 in the 0-1 home defeat against LASK Linz . In the 2008/09 season , Taboga scored four goals, three of which were headers.
Tromso IL
After the season, Taboga received an offer from the Norwegian Tippeligaen club Tromsø IL , whereupon he and his wife Nicole flew to Tromsø for a five-day trial . After his return he was very optimistic that he would get a contract with Tromsø Idrettslag, although the club has not yet made a decision as they wanted to sell a defender from their own team before they agreed to Taboga. So Taboga set a deadline for the Norwegian club, which expired on June 19, 2009 without any result.
“Off, that's it, I'll stay in Kapfenberg. It would have been a great opportunity, but I won't let myself be fooled. "
In interviews he stated that he would continue to be loyal to Kapfenberger SV and that no change was planned after all. After he had already played a game in the 2009/10 season, Taboga moved to Tromsø IL in Norway on July 25, 2009, exactly six years to the day after his professional debut. It was agreed not to disclose the transfer fee, but should Taboga be transferred, Kapfenberger SV would collect one more time. Taboga's contract with Tromsø IL ran until December 31, 2012.
He made his team debut on August 27, 2009 in the fourth and final Europa League qualifying round against Athletic Bilbao , which ended in a 1-1 draw. In the game Taboga came on in the 90th minute for Hans Åge Yndestad . He made his debut in the Tippeligaen on September 13, 2009 in the 2-0 away defeat against Sandefjord Fotball , in which he was on the field for the entire game.
Change back to Kapfenberg on loan
In the summer break before the 2010/11 season , the central defender moved back to Kapfenberger SV for a year on loan. The former captain of Obersteirer had two or three offers from other clubs at the same time, but decided on Kapfenberg because he got the first offer from them. After another season and relegation from the Bundesliga, he moved to KSV's new league competitor, SV Grödig .
Due to a fraud affair (see below), the Austrian Bundesliga imposed a lifelong ban on all functions against Taboga at the end of February 2014.
successes
- 1 × Austrian second division champion: 2007/08 ( first division ) (promotion to the Bundesliga)
Fraud affair
On November 27, 2013, Taboga was arrested for betting fraud. He was suspected of fraud in connection with match-fixing and was also investigated for embezzlement. On February 19, 2014, he was banned from the Bundesliga for life. Dominik Taboga was sentenced to three years of partial imprisonment in a criminal trial. In addition to Sanel Kuljić and Taboga, six other defendants were conditionally sentenced to terms of between one year and four years.
In November 2016, Taboga published his autobiography "Serious foul - in the labyrinth of the most beautiful game in the world" ( ISBN 978-3-902480-40-8 ), in which he dealt with the past and described himself as "young, naive and stupid".
