Donnelly Rhodes

Donnelly Rhodes (born December 4, 1937 in Winnipeg , Manitoba , † January 8, 2018 in Maple Ridge , British Columbia ) was a Canadian actor .

Career

During his service with the Royal Canadian Air Force , Donnelly Rhodes tried himself as a stage actor . After studying at the Manitoba Theater Center and the National Theater School, he joined the Stratford Festival Theater in 1963. There he played the leading role of Stanley Kowalski in Tennessee Williams ' Endstation Sehnsucht .

In the course of his over 60-year acting career, Rhodes appeared in many films and series, including in 1969 with Paul Newman and Robert Redford in Two Bandits . This was followed by engagements in series such as Soap - Trautes Heim (1978–1981), Hill Street Police Station (1982–1983), Double Trouble (1984–1985) and Danger Bay (1985–1990). In the Canadian television series Da Vinci's Inquest , he played the role of Detective Leo Shannon in over 90 episodes from 1998 to 2005 .

From 2004 to 2009 Rhodes was seen as Doctor Cottle in the military science fiction series Battlestar Galactica in a total of 36 episodes. In 2010 he played the grandfather of the main character Sam Flynn in Tron: Legacy . The last time Rhodes appeared as an actor was in 2016 in the DC series The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow , broadcast by television station The CW . In each episode he played the role of Agent Smith .

Donnelly Rhodes died on January 8, 2018 at Baillie House Hospice in Maple Ridge of complications from cancer.

Awards

Donnelly Rhodes received a Gemini Award in 2002 for his role in Da Vinci's Inquest . He was nominated for this award in 1988, 1999 and 2000. In 2006 he received the Earle Gray Award for Lifetime Achievement.
