Drake Batherson (born April 27, 1998 in Fort Wayne , Indiana ) is an American - Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Ottawa Senators in the National Hockey League since October 2017 and also for their farm team , the Belleville Senators , in the American Hockey League is used.
Career
Drake Batherson was born in Fort Wayne when his father Norm was there for the Comets . He then followed his career path to Germany, where he grew up for several years until the family finally settled in the Annapolis Valley region in the Canadian province of Nova Scotia . There he played in his youth for the Valley Wildcats , among others , before he moved to the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles in the Ligue de hockey junior majeur du Québec (LHJMQ), the highest-ranking junior league in the region, during the 2015/16 season . In his first full season, the winger recorded 58 points in 61 games and was then selected in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft in 121st position by the Ottawa Senators . For the time being, however, he returned to the LHJMQ for another year, although he was transferred within the league to the Armada de Blainville-Boisbriand in January 2018 . With the team, the attacker reached the final of the playoffs for the Coupe du Président , but lost to the Titan d'Acadie-Bathurst there , although he himself led the post-season scorer list (33).
After Batherson was given an entry-level contract from the Senators in October 2017 , he switched to their organization for the 2018/19 season. As expected, he was initially used by the farm team , the Belleville Senators from the American Hockey League (AHL), before making his debut in the National Hockey League (NHL) in November 2018 . Since then, he has been commuting regularly between the NHL and AHL, with his performance in Belleville leading to an invitation to the AHL All-Star Classic , where he was named MVP .

Batherson, who has both Canadian and US citizenship, runs internationally for Canada. With the U20 national team of Ahorn Blätter he played his first major tournament at the U20 World Cup 2018 , led the team with seven goals and subsequently won the gold medal with him.
