Durize

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Durize (also called Rouge de Fully ) is a red wine variety that is cultivated in small quantities around the town of Fully in the Swiss canton of Valais . It is a very old, autochthonous variety. Quite widespread in earlier days, in 2007 only 0.65 hectares of planted vineyards were surveyed (source: Office fédéral de l'agriculture OFAG). It probably comes from the Italian Aosta Valley .

Ideally, Durize can be used to make a full-bodied red wine. In less good years, however, the wines are low in alcohol and rich in acid . The variety ripens early and bears moderately, but very irregularly. It is also very sensitive to a lack of magnesium in the soil. The berries are extremely crisp. Genetic analyzes have shown that Durize is a natural cross between the Roussin variety from the Aosta Valley and an as yet unknown variety.
