Resi (wine)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Resi ( French Rèze ) is an autochthonous white wine variety from the Swiss canton of Valais . It is a Valais Grand Cru .

The Resi is an old local Valais grape variety that has become extremely rare today, as almost all phylloxera plants fell victim to around 1920 . In 2002, 0.72 hectares of planted vineyards were officially determined. By 2007 the population had recovered slightly (2.13 hectares, as of 2007, source: Office fédéral de l'agriculture OFAG).

The winemakers differentiate between the Grosse Réze and Petite Rèze varieties . The Grosse Rèze variety has slightly thicker grapes than the Petite Rèze. The late-ripening variety produces wines with a neutral aroma and high acidity . Due to their high acidity, the wine is stored for a long time in order to obtain a pleasant taste.

The old variety may be the variety described by Pliny the Elder as "Uva raetica", which was brought to Switzerland by the Phokers from Marseille . Certain ampelographers recognize a relationship to the Prié Blanc grape variety grown in the Italian Aosta Valley . DNA analyzes at the “Istituto agrario di San Michele all'Adige”, today Fondazione Edmund Mach in San Michele all'Adige, revealed a second-degree relationship to the grape varieties Freisa , Cornalin du Valais , Roussin de Morgex and Petit-Rouge . There is a direct connection to the Nosiola variety . Previously was glacier wine (also the Glaciers Vin called) sorted pressed from her.
