List of grape varieties |
Petite Arvine or Arvine is a very old white wine variety that is grown in the canton of Valais , Switzerland and in the neighboring Aosta Valley in Italy . The origin is unknown. The name, derived from Latin, possibly refers to the fact that the vine came to Valais via the Savoy Arve valley .
Petite Arvine belongs to a group of grape varieties that have been able to maintain themselves in the geographical island location of the Alpine regions of Italy and the Valais in Switzerland. The following varieties belong to this group:
- Red wine varieties: Bonda , Cornalin d'Aoste, Cornalin du Valais , Crovassa , Durize , Eyholzer , Fumin , Goron de Bovernier , Mayolet , Ner d'Ala , Petit-Rouge , Prëmetta / Prié rouge , Roussin , Roussin de Morgex , Vien de Nus , Vuillermin .
- White wine varieties: Completer , Himbertscha , Humagne Blanche , Lafnetscha , Petite Arvine, Planscher , Prié Blanc , Resi .
distribution
The forested area in Valais is 150 hectares (as of 2007, source: Office fédéral de l'agriculture OFAG). It only grows on the best sunny and sheltered terraced locations (→ steep vineyards ). The grape variety sprouts early, but ripens almost last within the Valais grape range; their vegetation cycle is therefore very long. Most of the time, the Petite Arvine has a must weight of 95 to 110 degrees Öchsle .
Wine
The Petite Arvine delivers a light yellow white wine with great finesse and a characteristic salt note, which is sometimes called Arvine for short . As a rule, these wines are made dry. Occasionally, dessert wines like a Trockenbeerenauslese are made from long-ripened berries .
