Echt was a German pop group from Flensburg that was founded in 1994. She had her greatest success in 1999 with the song You carry no love in you , before it broke up in 2002.

Band history

The members of “Echt” got to know each other at their joint school and began their career as a school band under the name Seven Up at the Kurt Tucholsky School (KTS) in Flensburg, which was supervised by the music teacher at the time, Dietmar Wagner. The line-up remained unchanged during the entire active period.

The self-titled debut album was released in 1998. Although none of the singles released reached the Top-10 in Germany, the videos for the songs Alles wird sich anders und Wir hats played on the music channel VIVA Germany . Media like Bravo tried to establish the image of a German boy group, even if the band itself refused and emphasized its origins as a school band.

The group reached the peak of their success in 1999 with their second album Freischwimmer and their first top 10 hit You don't carry love in you . The band members made headlines when they ran naked across Hamburg's Reeperbahn for the filming of the music video for the song in 2010 . In 2000, the group was once again successful with the single Junimond , a cover version of the title by Rio Reiser .

Whereas compositions by professional songwriters had previously been used , the musicians wrote all the pieces for the third album, Recorder, for the first time. The sales figures for the album, which was finally released in 2001, fell short of forecasts . Advance ticket sales for the tour were also unsatisfactory, some shows were relocated to smaller halls, and the planned second part of the tour was canceled. The band's last single from the album Recorder was called Stand Still and was also unsuccessful. A new studio album announced for 2002 did not materialize. Instead, at the end of 2002, the separation from "Echt" was announced.

In 2011, the band performed again together on stage at a memorial concert for the late artist Walter Welke .

Special

  • In interviews, the band refused to be referred to as a boy group , even though their audience consisted predominantly of young girls - stylistically, they could not be compared with the typical boy groups of the time, nor was Echt a "retort band".
  • Most of the pieces on the albums were penned by Kai Fischer, who was named in the CD booklets under the pseudonym Jonathan Löwenherz . However, the best-known and most successful titles were always foreign compositions and were written by Michel van Dyke ( Where are you now? And you have no love in you ) , among others . At the early Echt concerts in particular, cover versions were often played by bands like Selig , whose former producer Franz Plasa also worked with Echt.
  • In episode 106 ( The Man Without a Head ) of the radio play series Die Drei ??? all band members were involved, although only singer Kim Frank had a bigger role (than Jeffrey ).
  • In the summer of 2000, the band recorded the song Junimond by Rio Reiser as a cover version ; it served as the soundtrack for the film Crazy with Robert Stadlober and Tom Schilling in the lead roles and was the last major success of the group.
  • Kim Frank appeared in a leading role of the film NVA by Leander Haussmann with which was released of 2005.
  • Florian Sump has been back in the music business as rapper Jim Ransen since 2007 . His main job is as a pedagogical assistant in a Hamburg kindergarten. Since 2012 he has released several rap albums with the band Deine Freunde , which also includes DJ Pauli and Lukas Nimscheck , aimed at children of kindergarten and primary school age.
  • After completing a traineeship, Gunnar Astrup works as a music editor for radio.
