Effacer l'historique (international title: Delete History ) is a French - Belgian feature film by Benoît Delépine and Gustave Kervern from 2020 . The tragicomedy, for which the directing duo also wrote the script, is about three victims of Web 2.0 (portrayed by Blanche Gardin , Denis Podalydès and Corinne Masiero ) who join forces to take action against the big Internet companies.

The world premiere is scheduled for February 24, 2020 as part of the competition at the 70th Berlin International Film Festival . A French theatrical release is announced for April 22, 2020.

In a provincial town, the three neighbors Marie, Bertrand and Christine are struggling with the pitfalls of new technologies and social networks . Marie, who lives on her husband's family allowances, is blackmailed with a sex tape and tries to keep it a secret from her son. Bertrand is the victim of advertising calls and his daughter is bullied over the Internet. Christine, who works as a taxi driver, is annoyed that her customer ratings in the taxi app don't work. At the same time, she is left with nothing after her TV series addiction has taken over. Together, Marie, Bertrand and Christine decide to take action against the large Internet companies. A seemingly unequal fight takes its course.

The shooting of the ninth feature film by Benoît Delépine and Gustave Kervern was scheduled for six weeks and, from the end of July 2019, took place mainly in the Hauts-de-France region , where they had already made films. The film was shot in the cities of Saint-Laurent-Blangy and Arras , among others . Further filming was planned in California , the headquarters of the technology company Apple , and in Mauritius .

The directing duo engaged the actors Blanche Gardin , Denis Podalydès and Corinne Masiero for the leading roles . According to Kervern, both love the humor of Podalydès and his brother Bruno , who made films together. The two have known Masiero for years, but had worked together on projects that were not successful. Delépine and Kervern worked with Gardin for the first time. In 2018 and 2019 she won the French Molière Theater Prize twice in a row for her humorous stage programs . Other roles include Yolande Moreau and Benoît Poelvoorde, old companions of the directors, while the well-known French writer Michel Houellebecq and the actor Vincent Lacoste also make small appearances .

Effacer l'historique was produced by Sylvie Pialat and Benoît Quainon for Les Films du Worso and by No Money Productions. The co-producers were France 3 Cinéma and Scope Pictures from Belgium. The French distributor is Ad Vitam; the worldwide exploitation rights are held by the German company Wild Bunch .

Awards

Delépine and Kervern competed with Effacer l'historique for the second time since 2010 for the Golden Bear , the main prize of the Berlinale. There the film was awarded a special prize in the Silver Bear. The comedy also won the Berliner Morgenpost readers' award . In addition, Effacer l'historique is in the preselection for the European Film Award 2020 .
