Eight men and a scandal (original title: Eight Men Out ) is an American feature film from 1988 with Charlie Sheen and John Cusack in the leading roles. The production company was Orion Pictures Corporation . The film deals with the true events of the 1919 Black Sox scandal .

Young baseball players Buck Weaver and Oscar Happy Felsch played in the 1919 World Series for the Chicago White Sox team . The highly-favored White Sox team reached the final of the baseball championship this season. The team is considered unbeatable and is looked after by the stingy manager Charles Comiskey. Comiskey pays its players badly and treats them disrespectfully. Due to the poor pay, bookmakers and betting sharks become aware of the dissatisfied and frustrated players. They succeed in gradually convincing eight players to lose the finals for the championship. Legendary player Shoeless Joe Jackson was among the bribed players . After the Sox were repeatedly beaten by the Cincinnati Reds , some sports reporters suspect a shift. They finally manage to uncover the greatest scandal in American baseball history. In the end, the eight professionals were banned for life.
